Balance 014 - Joris Voorn

Over the years, by always giving DJs room to take new directions, Balance has given birth to numerous other ground-breaking albums. Featuring Jimmy van M, Luke Fair, Lee Burridge and S.O.S on the last respective releases, Balance’s next release was therefore much anticipated.

With Balance 014, Joris Voorn has taken the next step in the series being a vehicle for artistic freedom. Without doubt, the length of the tracklist alone will make you wonder how he squeezed that many tracks on a CD album, even a double one.

On his MySpace blog Joris explains, “The process of making this mix has been more like painting with sound rather than mixing the end of one track with the beginning of another. Working this way has been very interesting for me and made the project into something very different than a conventional DJ mix CD.”

In the process Joris reduced some of the tracks listed to just a loop, and with others he only used the break or the intro. “I’m sure I won’t be pleasing everyone with these mixes, some listeners will be happily or uneasily surprised, but at least it’s pushing my own boundaries in a technical, but even more so, in a musical and artistic way.”
